Care, Connection & Compassion Program
Learning to care for animals, ourselves, and the world we share.
This program emphasizes healing and personal growth through meaningful animal connection, ethical education, and healthy living practices. Through immersive, hands-on experiences, participants build empathy, stewardship, and wellbeing while learning how compassionate choices support both individual health and the health of our planet.
At The White Pig Animal Sanctuary, we believe in the transformative power of connection—between people, animals, and the world we share. Every day, we witness profound moments of change when someone looks into the eyes of a rescued animal, truly sees them for who they are, and recognizes that their life has value.
This moment of recognition is the foundation of our Care, Connection, and Compassion Program, where youth and adults are guided through hands-on experiences that nurture empathy, kindness, and a deeper understanding of farmed animals.
Many young people have never had the opportunity to interact with farm animals in the same way they do with pets or wildlife. By spending meaningful time with rescued pigs, horses, sheep, and goats—each with a name, a personality, and a story—participants begin to see these animals as individuals, not commodities. They experience the joy of pigs playing, the gentleness of a horse leaning in for affection, and the quiet trust of a rescued sheep resting beside them. Through eco-therapy, interactive animal care, and humane education, we create a safe and supportive space where participants can reflect on their emotions, explore the interconnectedness of all living beings, and carry those lessons into their own lives.
The program also includes Plant-Powered Living, an educational component that invites youth and adults to learn healthy, plant-based cooking skills while exploring how food choices impact personal well-being, environmental sustainability, and animal welfare. By honoring diverse cultural traditions and lived experiences, we empower participants to make informed, compassionate decisions that align with their values and health goals.
We also offer the Sanctuary Stewards Mentorship Program, which provides individualized mentorship for youth, nurturing leadership through kindness, care, and connection. One parent shared, “It was such an important part of her moral upbringing.” A program graduate reflected, “It’s a place where people come to have immersive interactions with animals and learn kindness.”
We hope you will consider making a gift in support of this ambitious and deeply meaningful program, helping us inspire care, connection, and compassion in the next generation.
